El conocimiento científico sobre los procesos que ocurren en el cerebro humano a la hora de aprender un nuevo idioma, en combinación con los avances de la tecnología, ha generado una nueva “fiebre” por aprender idiomas, de forma rápida, natural y por Internet.

En esta tendencia, la empresa Babbel destaca por el innovador método que ofrece totalmente en línea y que promete que los usuarios aprender un nuevo idioma estudiando tan solo 15 minutos al día, de la misma forma como aprenden su lengua materna.

Para diseñar su programa, Babbel echó mano de la ciencia y creó un concepto de enseñanza que está dando mucho de qué hablar. Su enfoque educativo se basa en el estudio de la lengua durante 15 minutos al día, un tiempo que resulta demasiado sorprendente si consideramos lo que un estudiante dedica a aprender un nuevo idioma en su tiempo libre, cuyo promedio se ubica en los 90 minutos cada día.

La receta secreta

Uno de los razonamientos de la compañía es que cuando un estudiante absorbe mucha información, es casi imposible que logre comprenderla toda. Los psicólogos llaman a esto “sobrecarga cognitiva”, pero la receta secreta se encuentra en otra parte del conocimiento científico: el cerebro sabe distinguir la información que es relevante para nuestra vida diaria y la “paja” o basura que no nos aporta nada importante.

Esto hace que la información no prioritaria se elimine de nuestra memoria de largo plazo. Por ello no es conveniente memorizar muchas cosas a la vez, y mejor se recomienda repetir cantidades más pequeñas de información con mayor frecuencia. Esto es más eficaz casi en todo, pero especialmente en el aprendizaje de idiomas.

Para almacenar algo en la memoria a largo plazo, debemos hacer conexiones y repetirlas. Este es un valioso consejo que da la empresa a sus usuarios y se basa en su convicción de que la repetición es una parte fundamental a la hora de aprender un idioma.

Las aplicaciones de idiomas como ésta tienen algo en común: fueron diseñadas de acuerdo al principio psicológico de la “fragmentación”: el cerebro funciona mejor si aprende 7 cosas nuevas a la vez. Estos “fragmentos de información” deben ser absorbidos en determinado tiempo; por ello el sistema de Babbel repite 10 elementos durante 5 minutos, para luego hacer una nueva lección, que dura unos 15 minutos.

Pide cerveza en 12 idiomas

Para practicar un poco, y en sintonía con las fiestas decembrinas, te proponemos aprender a pedir una cerveza en 12 idiomas diferentes al español. Así “alimentas” tu memoria de largo plazo.

Alemán: Ein bier bitte (ain bie bit-eh).

Catalán: Una cervesa, si us plau (una cervezha, si us plau).

Checo: Pivo prosím (pivo prosim).

Francés: Une bière s’il vous plaît (un bier sil vu plé).

Holandés: Een bier graag (un bir jraj).

Inglés: One beer please (wan bir pliz).

Islandés: Einn bjór, takk (e bior, tak).

Italiano: Una birra, per favore (una birra, per favore).

Polaco: Jedno piwo, prosze (yadno pivo, proshe).

Portugués: Uma cerveja por favor (uma cervezha por favor).

Sueco: En öl tack (en el tak).

Turco: Bir bira lütfen (bir bira lutfen).
