Puede parecer de lo más normal comer un litro de helado tras una ruptura amorosa, comer en exceso por una situación que nos cause estrés o ingerir grandes cantidades de comida que nuestro cuerpo no requiere.
Tras analizar los innumerables casos en los que nos sometemos diariamente por comer compulsivamente, se ha llegado a la conclusión que este padecimiento proviene de la pérdida de control emocional, por la necesidad de llenar vacíos emocionales y sentimentales de nuestra existencia.
La psicóloga Isabel Menéndez explica cómo es que la comida se convierte en un sustituto del equilibrio emocional. Por ejemplo, cuando nos sentimos frustrados o estamos bajo altos niveles de estrés, tendemos a comer compulsivamente, con desesperación y por ende, a comer por emoción.
La experta menciona que el hambre y el amor están intrínsecamente conectados. “El hambre se satisface con el alimento; el amor realiza nuestro deseo de ser alguien para otro. Si no se llega a satisfacer la primera, se muere nuestro cuerpo, sin resolver lo segundo”. Ahí es cuando aparece la tristeza, la depresión, ansiedad y encara la falta de afectividad, de ese modo, el alimento material y afectivo se entremezclan desde el principio de nuestra existencia.
No expresar los emociones o sentimiento negativos, es una de las principales causas de la alimentación emocional. No afrontar o reconocer los afectos de nuestro inconsciente, produce que los mismos se manifiestan en forma de compulsión hacia la comida. Abandono, culpa, rabia, celos, rivalidad, angustia o tristeza son sólo algunos de los sentimientos que tras no ser expresados, terminan en un conflicto con la alimentación.
Los conflictos con la comida demuestran ciertas luchas acalladas, cargas emocionales, problemas en el pasado o alguna situación que nos cause temor mencionar. Con la comida conseguimos bajar la tensión ocasionada por esta falta de comunicación, por ejemplo cuando tenemos una angustia, comemos por la necesidad incesante de calmar esa emoción o por el contrario, rechazamos la comida por un sentimiento de angustia, miedo o preocupación.
La psicóloga sugiere adentrarse más allá de la psique.
Nuestra mente se alimenta de deseos, fantasías, sueños, ilusiones, afectos, etc. La psique se relaciona con las emociones o pensamientos y es por eso que cuando nos sentimos bien con nosotros mismos, aceptamos también otro tipo de cambios vitales, en otras palabras, estamos bien alimentados psicológicamente hablando. Identificar las emociones y sentimientos que nos acercan o nos alejan de la comida nos ayudará a controlar el impulso inconsciente de comer emocionalmente.
