Lo cierto es que la web Baratz, especializada en librerías y rankings de literatura, publicó una lista de los 10 libros más leídos en el mundo basado en las cifras de ventas de las principales librerías en el mundo occidental. Estos son los resultados:
- La Biblia
Como no podía de ser de otra forma, la Biblia es el libro más vendido. Esta serie de textos judaicos y cristianos están en casi todas las casas del mundo occidental y su influecia es apabullante.
- Citas del Presidente Mao Tse-Tung
El gran líder de la revolución cultural en China. Desde 1964, este libro se vende en todo China y se trata de un recopilatorio de discursos del líder social y del gobierno chino durante todo su regimen.
- Harry Potter
El último gran fenómeno literario para adolescentes (y mayores que creen en la magia). La saga de la escritora británica J.K Rowling se apropió del mundo para fundar la gran serie del Siglo XX. Millones de jóvenes se han quedado arrastrados por esta interesante alegoría a la madurez, los riesgos del fascismo y una buena dosis de fantasía.
- El señor de los Anillos
Otra saga de fantasía y otra saga que vio su popularidad revivir gracias al cine. La obra gigantesca de JRR Tolkienn ha sido tan influyente que aún hoy se sigue estudiando. Un brindis por la tierra media que logró encontrar el equilibrio destruyendo el anillo y la amenaza de Saurón. Su gran valía reside en la amalgama de una mitología única donde confluyen elfos y gnomos, humanos y ents, dragones y hobbits.
- El Alquimista
Buff, la obra cumbre de Paulo Coehlo. No hay mucho qué decir. Es un libro de autoayuda novelizado. El camino del autodescubrimiento, las epifanías, significados de vida, todo eso que tanto les gusta a las editoriales para monetizar.
El Código Da Vinci
Los principios del siglo no podrían pasar desapercibidos sin la polémica que causó esta novela de Dan Brown. Pese a su fórmula repetitiva y sus inexactitudes históricas, esta novela de ficción fue un éxito editorial gracias a los debates que se hicieron alrededor suyo. Llena de teorías de conspiración que incluían a Jesús, un grupo elegido desde los tiempos bíblicos y un linaje sagrado, era un triunfo asegurado.
- Crepúsculo
Me estoy torturando al escribir esto, pero la obra de Stephenie Meyer está en el top de más vendidos y leídos. La saga de Crepúsculo es una novela adolescente cuyo gran giro es que tiene vampiros y hombres lobos. Y ya, es todo.
- Lo que el viento se llevó
Famoso el libro, famosa la película. Esta historia épica está ambientada en la Guerra de Secesión de los Estados Unidos, cuando el Norte y el Sur peleaban por abolir la esclavitud. La historia cuenta como protagonista al arquetipo femenino de la época: la aristócrata Scarlett O’hara, que se enfrenta a los horrores y crueldades de esa guerra.
